Learn to Row
Derby Rowing Club runs courses for juniors (12 and over) and adults throughout the year. Our water courses are limited to the British Summertime months for safety reasons. The courses involve a combination of water sessions and land based activity within our boathouse. You will start the course with a 4 week stint in the boathouse, completing circuit training and learning basic technique on one of our many indoor rowing machines. During week 5, we will transition to the water: combining a mixture of sculling and sweep oar rowing.
During the course, our expert coaches will teach you all you need to know regarding the handling of a boat, and water safety on the River Derwent. You will start in recreational boats that are stable and this will aid you to develop your technique. As your confidence grows, you will have the opportunity to try ‘finer boats’. Our aim is that all learn to row participants are able to row safely and with confidence.
Our courses are planned and conducted by professionally qualified coaches, the sessions will be altered to meet needs and abilities.
